YogaYatra offers Hatha, Vinyasa (Flow), Yoga Therapy, Pregnancy (Pre- and Postnatal), and Menopause Yoga classes. The YogaYatra classes are holistic; you will find Physical Postures (Asanas) in combination with Breathing Exercises (Pranayama), Meditation, and also Yoga Philosophy and chanting of Mantras. Every class lasts 1.5 hours, which is highly recommended for a good quality yoga experience.
All classes are bi-lingual (English / Dutch).
Vinyasa Yoga - BASICS
Basics Hatha Yoga class with a little bit of flow for Beginners, and Intermediate students, or Advanced students who wish to strengthen the techniques and foundation of their practice.
The pace of the class is relatively low, and you will get a thorough explanation on the techniques of the basic Yoga postures and how to go into them. You will also hold yourself in the postures a little longer, so there is time to improve the alignment of the posture and you will learn to use the breath as a tool to relax and to come deeper into the posture. Every week we work on a specific Asana group (group of yoga postures) like Forward Bends, Twistings, Side Bends, Back Bends, Balances and Inversions, so that in the Basics classes you will learn the whole range of important basic Yoga postures.
This class focuses on proper breathing, body alignment and learning the techniques of the basic Yoga postures strengthening the lower back, abdominal muscles, legs and upper body. We use props like the wall, blocks and belts to support the postures. The flow of the class (the breath-synchronized movement from one posture into the next) is slow and easy. Next to the Physical Postures, in this class you will find Breathing Exercises (Pranayama), Meditation, and also Yoga Philosophy and chanting of Mantras. We work on techniques, strength, flexibility, balance, breath, openness and relaxation of the body and the mind.
The Vinyasa Yoga BASICS classes are the necessary preparation for the next level of Vinyasa Yoga ADVANCED classes. Ask your teacher if you are ready for the next level!
Vinyasa Yoga - ADVANCED
These classes are for Intermediate, and Advanced students, as the pace of the class is relatively high and a basic understanding of the technical execution of the postures is required. Also more advanced Yoga postures are introduced and practiced. In this class the real flow comes in!
Vinyasa means “Flow” or “breath-synchronized movement”, and it is a dynamic form of Hatha Yoga, where the physical postures are linked together in an intelligent series and where the body moves fluently on the breath from one posture into the next. The whole practice then becomes like a dance, a moving meditative experience. Vinyasa Yoga is also called Power Yoga, because of its vigorous approach.
Next to the Physical Postures, in this class you will find Breathing Exercises (Pranayama), Meditation, and also Yoga Philosophy and chanting of Mantras. We work on strength, stamina, flexibility, deep breathing, mental focus, stability in motion, and openness and relaxation of the body and the mind.
Vinyasa Flow Yoga is closely modeled on the Ashtanga Vinyasa style of practice as was taught in Mysore, South India, by Sri K. Pattabhi Jois, but the difference is that in Vinyasa Yoga we do not follow a set series of poses. A Vinyasa Yoga class can vary widely from the next, working with specific themes, making use of a variety of intelligent sequencing and a full spectrum of poses.
Vinyasa Yoga - ALL LEVELS
These classes are for All Levels - Beginners, Intermediate, and Advanced students. The class is a combination of the BASICS and ADVANCED classes (see above), where we will practice a full range of poses and for whom and when needed we use props like the wall, blocks and belts to support the postures, so everyone can get along and your practice is aligned with your level.
Yoga Therapy
Yoga Therapy classes are offered in a private setting (1-on-1) and are for All Levels Yoga practitioners – from Beginners to Advanced. They help us to relax and rest deeply, while we are healing the body from physical injuries and restrictions. In these classes it is all about deep relaxation, stress reduction, and healing of the physical-, mental-, and emotional body. In Yoga Therapy classes props (mats, blocks, belts, blankets, bolsters, and the wall) are used to support the body so that you can hold poses while eliminating unnecessary strain, allowing you to open your body through passive stretching. We also do Pranayamas (breathing exercises) and guided meditation.
The Yoga Therapy classes are therapeutic, we do exercises and practices to help you heal from or bring relief to specific physical- or mental complaints you may have. These classes are recommended for people with certain injuries, physical restrictions or complaints, and suffering or recovering from specific illnesses. For instance people having problems with their back, neck, shoulders, hips, knees, or feet, people suffering from headaches, fatigue, or insomnia. They are also perfect healing classes for people with a burn-out / overstrainedness.
Prenatal Yoga
Our Prenatal Yoga classes cater the needs of women from 14-42 weeks of pregnancy (so from 14 weeks until birth) and include physical-, breathing-, and relaxation exercises that support your physical well-being during the pregnancy, and also practice for birth preparation, incl. poses for giving birth, and physical- and breathing exercises that can bring you comfort during labor. The classes are suitable for women with little to no yoga experience, but also for women more experienced with yoga.
Postnatal Yoga
The Postnatal Yoga classes are recuperative yoga classes for new mums focusing on the mother after birth. They are for women from 6 weeks after delivery onwards (10 weeks in case of c-section), covering the postpartum period and the first postnatal year. These classes will give you a good foundation to strengthen muscles from the inside out and can be great in preparation for your regular yoga classes or other fitness regimes. We focus on simple yet effective yoga movements, breathing techniques, chanting, and relaxation.
Menopause Yoga (Yoga voor de Overgang)
The Menopause Yoga classes are specifically designed for women in the menopause (voor vrouwen in de overgang). We focus on yoga- and other fitness practices that prevent or bring relieve to typical pre- and post menopausal complaints on the physical, mental, and emotional level. Next to the physical practices we also include stress-reduction techniques like breathing exercises and meditation. This class will bring (hormonal) balance, fitness, strength & power, as well as deep relaxation to the pre- and post menopausal body. Sometimes these classes are referred to as "Hormone Yoga", but in our Menopause classes we actually go further than that, as we not only seek for hormonal balance, but also train the menopausal body to become strong and fit, to overcome typical complaints like weight-increase, joint-sensitivity, and weaker muscle- and bone structures due to collagen loss.
